Educational and Learning Assessment & Consultation

Understanding your child's school, learning, educational and behavioral challenges through — supportive, strengths-based assessment

This assessment helps us understand your child's educational and learning needs, as well their strengths and challenges across school, home and social environments.

At Aria Alessia Kids Center, we know that school struggles are not always simple. A child may be bright and verbal, but still have difficulty with attention, flexibility, memory, organization, homework, cognitive processing, friendships, emotional regulation, or classroom participation.

Our Educational & Learning Assessment helps families understand why school may be feel hard and what can be done to help your child succeed.

Who can benefit from the Educational & Learning Assessment?

This program may be helpful for children and teens who:

  • Are struggling in school despite effort or intelligence
  • Have learning difficulties impacting their academic progress
  • Have difficulty with homework, organization, or completing tasks
  • Need clearer recommendations for school support or additional accommodations
  • Show challenges with attention, impulsivity, frustration, or emotional overwhelm that may be impacting their learning; however, this assessment will not diagnose these conditions
  • Have difficulty with peer relationships or social communication
  • Become anxious, shut down, resistant, or exhausted through school demands
  • struggling with emotions or behavior: those experiencing low self-esteem, sadness, anger, anxiety, frustration, or other emotional challenges

This program is also helpful for parents and caregivers who:

  • require a clearer understanding of their child's learning, cognitive and academic strengths and weaknesses

  • want to ensure their children have the tools and strategies to thrive in their education
  • have concerns about behavior, learning or development — and would like to explore whether a more comprehensive assessment is needed and what options are available
  • want to discuss their child's difficulties related to learning, attention or social communication
  • seeking clarity on challenging behavior: understanding whether behaviors are developmentally appropriate or require intervention

Identifying learning strengths and challenges

This assessment helps us better understand how a child learns, thinks, communicates, adapts, and manages everyday school demands.

We look at areas such as:

  • Reading, writing, and learning skills
  • Attention, organization and homework struggles
  • Communication, social interaction, and peer relationships
  • Problem-solving, and decision-making
  • Classroom participation and independence
  • School environment, flexibility and learning style
This assessment helps parents, educators and professionals develop effective support strategies and make informed decisions about enrichment or strategies for success.

Understanding behavioral and emotional regulation challenges

Some children may struggle with emotions, attention, behavior, or social situations in ways that affect school, friendships, and daily life. This assessment helps us better understand areas such as:

  • Emotional reactivity, regulation and frustration tolerance
  • Managing stress
  • Attention and focus challenges, including distractibility and impulsivity
  • Behavioral patterns that may interfere with school and social success
  • Anxiety, overwhelm or shutdowns
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Building friendships and maintaining peer relationships
  • Flexibility with routine, transitions, or change
This assessment helps parents and teachers better understand a child’s behaviors and emotions, and whether certain challenges may simply be developmental, stress-related, or signs that additional support could be helpful.

For families

Why understanding matters

One of the most important functions of educational and learning assesments is explanatin. These assessments help inform a more comprehensive understanding of why a child may be struggling despite the best efforts of parents, teachers, and other professionals. Understanding why a student is performing poorly in school is often the first step toward finding a better and more supportive approach.

More than that, understanding a child's learning difficulties, emotional regulation challenges, social-communication difficulties, executive functiong weaknesses, or adaptive skills needs often results in greater empathy for the child. Many students who struggle in school work hard to avoid activities they experience as confusing, overwhelming, frustrating or emotionally exhausting — sometimes by making things difficult for the adults trying to help them. When parents and teachers better understand why certain tasks are difficult, they are often able to respond with greater patience, compassion, and more effective support strategies.

One of the most important gaols of our Educational & Learning Assessment program is to help families and educators develop a clearer understanding of how a child learns, thinks, communicates, adapts and experiences school. By understanding a child's strengths and challenges earlier, families and professionals can better support children before problems become more severe and help them access the tools, accmmodations, and strategies they need to succeed.

The assessment can take place at our office or through telehealth, depending on the child’s needs, age, and the type of assessment being completed.
